Residential Seasonal Cleanups

You don’t wait for your car to break down before taking it to the mechanic, right? After a certain amount of time or kilometres, you bring it in for a tune-up. Why? Because you know that maintaining your vehicle will keep it running longer.

The same is true for your yard. Seasonal cleanups help protect the long-term health of your plants, trees, garden, and turf. They also prepare your lawn for the challenges of the next season.

The Grounds Guys® provides full-service seasonal yard cleanups for homeowners throughout Canada.

What’s Included in Our Seasonal Cleanup?

Our seasonal cleanup is designed to help clean, improve, and maintain the health of your lawn and landscaping. Our cleanup tasks will depend on the season and the specific needs of your property.

Typically, the two most important cleanups are the spring cleanup after the end of winter and the fall cleanup just before winter sets in. We always recommend a spring and fall cleanup at the minimum, but many of our clients benefit from a cleanup at the end of each season.

Depending on the time of year and your landscape needs, our seasonal cleanup may include the following:

What Are the Benefits of Seasonal Cleanups?

Our seasonal cleanups are designed to improve the health and appearance of your landscape.

Each season brings its own challenges, whether that means hot temperatures, destructive critters, or layers of leaves. Our seasonal yard cleanups help prepare your lawn and landscape for each season so you can enjoy a consistent and healthy-looking yard throughout the year.

A great-looking lawn can increase not only your property value but also your pride of ownership.

Here are some additional benefits our seasonal cleanup will provide:

Pruning and Trimming

Pruning and trimming trees and plants removes weak or dead parts, which helps promote good health and keeps trees and plants thriving throughout each season. In many cases, pruning and trimming can also stimulate new growth, helping your trees and garden plants get off to a good start at the beginning of the growing season.

Extreme conditions associated with summer and winter months can have a significant impact on the health and condition of your grass and soil. Seasonal fertilizing is a great way to add nutrients back into the soil and promote healthy growth. When we fertilize your lawn will depend on your region and what type of turf you have, and its current condition.

Over time, foot traffic from people and pets can compress your lawn and compact the soil. Our aeration process breaks up the soil, allowing water, nutrients and oxygen to flow more easily to the roots of your turf. This process improves the health of your lawn, which makes it less susceptible to diseases.

One of the most underrated seasonal cleanup tasks is edging. By creating clear boundaries, edging helps better define all the unique features of your landscape, boosting the overall appearance of your yard.

Raking and Removing Debris

Heavy thatch and falling leaves can blanket your lawn, blocking sunlight, water, oxygen, and nutrients. This can damage the health of your lawn and encourage fungus growth. Depending on your specific needs, our debris removal may include raking, dethatching, or removing falling branches or dead twigs from your lawn. Our dethatch process allows your turf to receive more sunlight, oxygen, and nutrients, which will improve its long-term health.

Our mulching service provides a layer of protection for plants, trees, and shrubs. Natural mulch also adds organic nutrients to your beds, locks in moisture during hot days, and helps stabilize the soil temperature during hot and cold days.

Weed and Insect Control

Spring and summer often brings stubborn weeds, such as crabgrass and dandelions, as well as insects that can damage your turf. Our weed and insect control help keep your lawn clean, allowing for a better experience when you and your family spend time in the yard.

Snow and Ice Removal

Snow left on driveways and walkways not only blocks access, it can quickly turn into dangerous ice. Ice also finds its way into cracks and small holes and expands, slowly eating away at your hardscapes and damaging walkways and driveways. Our snow removal services will keep pathways and driveways clear of snow and ice so you have easier access. This will improve the safety of your property and help preserve your hardscapes.

When to Schedule a Seasonal Cleanup

Our seasonal cleanup service is best utilized at the end of each season when the weather begins to change. Our local teams monitor the local weather patterns in their specific region so they can time your seasonal cleanup to ensure your lawn and landscape are ready for the coming season.

Spring Cleanup

To ensure our spring cleanup is effective, we wait until the last snowfall or last frost of the season has fully melted before scheduling your spring cleanup. For many parts of Canada, this is typically sometime in March, though it may be later in more northern regions of the country.

Fall Cleanup

Based on your region, we schedule our fall cleanup after the leaves begin falling and accumulating in your yard but before the first hard frost or snowfall of the winter season. In more southern regions of the country, a fall cleanup may take place in early November. However, in more northern regions of the country, a fall cleanup may be done in October or late September.
