The Grounds Guys Gives Back to North End Family Centre

October 27, 2016

At The Grounds Guys of Winnipeg, we genuinely care about connecting with the community and getting to know our neighbors. That is why one day out of every year, we take the time to give back. On Thursday, October 27, we proudly helped the North End Family Centre. The organization’s back yard, affectionately known as the “jungle,” was a space invaded by dying trees, weeds, and slabs of concrete. The area was essentially unusable – a loss of great potential.

The centre’s executive director, Kyle Mason, said they had dreams to transform the backyard into a community space where individuals can come to socialize and connect. However, they did not have the funds needed, which was used to renovate the buildings.

Our Winnipeg landscapers knew we had to do something. That is why our volunteer team pulled up the gardening gloves, donned our bright yellow sweaters, and got to work! We pulled out the dead foliage and replaced it with gravel. Raised garden beds were also installed, so that community members can plant vegetables and herbs.

The Jungle is now anything but. With its beautiful makeover, people can enjoy the space by having picnics, gardening, and socializing with neighbors. The North End Family Centre does great work building community and helping people any way they can. Our landscaping crew in Winnipeg are honored to help them with their vision.

The Grounds Guys of Winnipeg Celebrate Their First weCARE Day

On Friday November 7, 2014, The Grounds guys of Winnipeg volunteered their time at the local Ronald McDonald House in Winnipeg Manitoba. They embarked on their adventure in the rainy weather, and contributed their time by putting up Christmas decorations and completing small projects around the house. Congratulations Derek and team!

The Grounds Guys of Winnipeg First we CARE Day.

What is weCARE Day?

One of our biggest events every year at The Grounds Guys® is weCARE Day™, which occurs on the first Friday of each November. On this day, our entire national workforce mobilizes as an army of volunteers to help out at local charities, such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities (an organization that provides a home-away-from-home for families of critically ill children who are receiving treatment at a hospital). Our teams wash windows, plant flower bulbs, install mulch, clean-up landscapes, cook and serve meals, and whatever else is needed to help out.

The History of weCARE Day

Originally, this day was named Monika Day in memory of a The Grounds Guys family member. In a very moving and much appreciated spirit of CARE, friends and colleagues from all across North America joined us in celebration of her life. Today the event has grown into weCARE Day because, as we expand internationally, we thought that it was important that this amazing day be shared with everyone.
